The Red House Inn
The Red
House Inn, at 266 West Probart St, is an historic building
and the oldest home in Brevard. Originally built in 1851 as a trading
post, the home has gone through a numbers of changes over the years.
During the Civil War, the Confederates used the building as an arsenal
and meeting place. As the story goes, townspeople met there and
paid a gang of bushwhackers $300 in gold to refrain from murder
and robbery.
In 1912, the Red House was remodeled and opened as a hotel, later
becoming a boarding house. During one renovation, the old kitchen
was rolled down the hill and remodeled as a home. It has also served
as a two-family home, and today it is a wonderful inn.
Daniel and Tracie Trusler, proprietors of the Red House Inn, renovated
it again in 2006. They are charming hosts and very helpful to newcomers
in need of information and directions to our wonderful attractions.
They also cook up an amazing breakfast for their guests. Since it
is a popular place to stay, call ahead and reserve your rooms.
